Anesthesiology Societies in India

The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) is the non-profit professional society of anesthesiologist physicians of India. The Society is recognized as the representative body of the specialty by the state and national governments of India, the Medical Council of India, the Universities of India, and the National Academy of Medical Sciences.

The Society was founded in 1947 in Mumbai (Bombay), India with a commitment to improve and enhance healthcare standards, education and research in the fields of medicine, anesthesia, and pain management. The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists is affiliated with the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA), regionally linked to the Asian Australasian Society of Anaesthesiologists (AASA) and South Asian Confederation of Anaesthesiologists (SACA), and nationally represented through various state and city branches.

To meet the needs of its members, ISA conducts various conferences, workshops, and programs at both regional and national levels and publishes literature supplements including the Indian Journal of Anaesthesia, clinical protocols, and patient information brochures. The National Annual Conference is held in late December in a different city in India each year and attracts speakers and delegates from India and abroad. Members of the Society share information and research results on the synthesis, chemistry, and chemical properties of new pharmaceutical agents with anesthetic properties.

The Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs have become very popular over the years and cultural and sight-seeing programs are offered in addition to the scientific and state-of-the-art industrial exhibitions. Please contact the Society if you would like to learn more or if you would like to register for the next conference.
